The 1983 VF750F Interceptor took the V45 engine from the Sabre and Magna and put it in a race-derived chassis with a 16-inch front wheel, adjustable air suspension and a chain-driven rear, creating one of the first modern sportbikes. Its flat-out speed and handling outclassed the 750 opposition, and Honda's racing version won eight of fourteen AMA Superbike rounds that year. A slipper-type overrun clutch helped on hard downshifts.
